Successfully collaborating with the River Revitalization Foundation, Milwaukee County Parks and Recreation Division and AmeriCorps*NCCC resulted in a 3/4 mile ADA accessible pedestrian trail along the Milwaukee River connecting to the Oak Leaf Trail and other parts of Milwaukee County’s extensive trail system.
Groundwork Milwaukee sponsored the AmeriCorps*NCCC team that worked with Marek Construction to re-grade slopes on the trail to meet ADA standards and laid geo-textile fabric, trail sub-surface, and trail surface that meets ADA requirements and supports the use of wheelchairs. The trail was in an area covered with a considerable amount of invasive species including garlic mustard. The team also worked many hours to remove approximately 1500 pounds of exotic species, seed with native species and plant native trees.
