Friends of Milwaukee's Rivers

Friends of Milwaukee's Rivers protects water quality and wildlife habitat in the river corridors and advocates for sound land use in the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic River Watersheds.

Greening Milwaukee

Greening Milwaukee is a non-profit organization that evolved from the Mayor’s Beautification Committee. It was established in 1996 by Preston D. Cole, City Forester, to promote greening activities that would improve the urban environment, educate and train citizens, and increase community wealth.

Layton Boulevard West Neighbors

Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, Inc. is a community development corporation, whose mission is to stabilize and revitalize the neighborhood through the empowerment of neighborhood leaders. LBWN cultivates partnerships with others who care to create a neighborhood where people can be proud to live, work, and raise a family.

Menomonee Valley Partners, Inc.

The mission of Menomonee Valley Partners, Inc., is to promote redevelopment of the Menomonee Valley for the benefit of the entire Milwaukee community. MVP was created in 1999 in response to a recommendation in the Menomonee Valley Land Use Plan calling for a public-private partnership to guide the redevelopment effort. The organization takes an active role in the redevelopment through initiatives such as its Pre-Development Program and Sustainable Design Guidelines, and also plays the role of convenor and facilitator to speed the redevelopment process.

Milwaukee Community Service Corps

MCSC is a private, not-for-profit organization that has been serving the needs of the community and assisting young people to advance themselves and improve their neighborhoods through service since 1991. The Corps has contributed over 900,000 hours of service to the Milwaukee community and has provided opportunities for over 900 young adults.

Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation

The Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation ("MEDC") was incorporated in 1971 to assist businesses seeking to expand their operations with financing products. Through these expansions these businesses will create and retain jobs for local residents.

Milwaukee Environmental Consortium

The Milwaukee Environmental Consortium provides communal office services and is a conduit for communal benefits to its members. The member organizations include nonprofit organizations with missions focused on environmental and sustainable development issues. MEC provides an open and welcoming working environment to all environmental groups in the Greater Milwaukee area.

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District

As a regional government agency providing wastewater treatment and flood management services for 28 communities, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) serves 1.1 million people in a 420 square-mile service area. Established by state law, the District is governed by 11 commissioners and does have taxing authority. In addition to its core responsibilities, MMSD also conducts and provides water quality research, laboratory services, household hazardous waste collection, mercury collection, industrial waste monitoring, and Milorganite production and marketing.

Milwaukee Urban Gardens

Milwaukee Urban Gardens acquires and preserves land and partners with neighborhood residents to develop and maintain community gardens to enhance the quality of life.

River Revitalization Foundation

The River Revitalization Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) conservation organization Historically, the Milwaukee River Valley was a focal point of commerce and recreation with swimming, boating and ice-skating as major uses. For the last half century, the city turned away from the river. The river became a symbol of division in the neighborhoods bordering the valley. The recent removal of the dam at North Avenue, also the site of a new City pedestrian bridge, combined with water quality improvement efforts throughout the river basin has resulted in improved water quality and changing attitudes. These lands are threatened with residential and commercial development as housing moves up the Milwaukee River from downtown. Balance between the built and natural environment will ensure sustainability and economic vitality for the city.

Sixteenth Street Community Health Center

The Sixteenth Street Community Health Center is an innovative, case-managed, and family-based primary health care provider committed to the delivery of the highest quality health care services to Milwaukee's south side residents. In support of this mission the CENTER is dedicated to playing an active leadership role in the development, delivery, accessibility and advocacy of primary health care to improve the health and well-being of the individuals in the community we serve.

University of Wisconsin Madison - Landscape Architecture

The University of Wisconsin – Madison, Department of Landscape Architecture offers three undergraduate majors including a Professional Design and Planning Program; a Natural Resources Program and an International Resources Program. The Graduate program includes concentrations in Bioregional and Urban Ecosystem Studies; Community Design; Restoration and Management of Native Plant Communities; and Landscape History and Cultural Resource Preservation. Groundwork Milwaukee was pleased to work with students from the UW’s program during a Charrette focused on the 30th Street Industrial Corridor.

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee-School of Architecture and Urban Planning

The UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP) is dedicated to sustained participation in the design and planning of the community through research, teaching and service. Groundwork Milwaukee has collaborated with SARUP on several projects, including the KK River Trail Charrette.

Urban Open Space Foundation

UOSF is a private not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation, dedicated to enhancing the ecological, social, and economic quality of Wisconsin’s urban neighborhoods by helping to transform unused, underused and blighted spaces into vibrant public places. We do this through leadership, vision, advocacy, and expertise in all aspects of community organizing, as well as project planning, design, land acquisition and preservation, construction and management. Some projects are modest. Others are bold and ambitious. All require carefully and artistically designed spaces that are unique and versatile, that anchor communities, and that will grow in value over time.

Urban Ecology Center

The Urban Ecology Center is a neighborhood based, non-profit community center located in Milwaukee's historic Riverside Park. Using this living laboratory, the Urban Ecology Center: Provides environmental science programs to neighborhood schools. Promotes environmental awareness in the community. Preserves and enhances the natural resources of Riverside Park, and Protects the Milwaukee River.

Walnut Way

The Walnut Way Conservation Corporation is a newly chartered organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing Milwaukee’s oldest, most significant African American neighborhood. Planning for the Corporation grew out of City of Milwaukee and University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM) studies of the neighborhood aimed at spurring its revitalization.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

The Department of Natural Resources is dedicated to the preservation, protection, effective management, and maintenance of Wisconsin's natural resources. It is responsible for implementing the laws of the state and, where applicable, the laws of the federal government that protect and enhance the natural resources of our state. It is the one agency charged with full responsibility for coordinating the many disciplines and programs necessary to provide a clean environment and a full range of outdoor recreational opportunities for Wisconsin citizens and visitors.
